Obituary of Gilbert Lyman Hoffheins

Gilbert (Gil) Lyman Hoffheins, aged 92 years, 11 months, passed away on January 5th, 2024, at the William Childs Hospice House, surrounded by his wife, LaDonna Hoffheins and beloved family members. Gilbert was born on February 5th, 1931 in Altoona, PA, to his parents, Raymond Duncan Hoffheins and Helen Bell Bridenbaugh Hoffheins. Gil served two years as a United States Marine and four years in the United States Air Force during the Korean Conflict, where he was trained as an Air Traffic Controller. After being honorably discharged, he went to Tampa University and Graduated from Miami Bible College. Gil worked for over thirty-nine years in Air Traffic Control with the FAA, serving in various locations. His last assignment was at Patrick Air Force Base as Chief of Air Traffic Control.

Gil is survived by his loving wife LaDonna Ruth (Huey) Kovacs Hoffheins. They were married on February 17, 2007 and enjoyed traveling, visiting family, and spending time with friends they met at the First Melbourne Baptist Church. Gil was interested in clocks and gadgets of all kinds. He enjoyed fixing things and keeping his home “ship-shape”. Gil had a good sense of humor and was always ready with a good joke or story to fit any occasion. Gil was a generous man of deep faith and commitment to His Lord Jesus Christ. He will be greatly missed.

Gil is pre-deceased by his parents, Raymond and Helen Hoffheins, his wife Myrtle Lee Boyd Hoffheins, his sister Elizabeth (Betty) Hoffheins, brother William Hoffheins, a half-sister June Bradfield, and a step-grand-son William John Herman, IV. He is survived by his loving wife LaDonna, her children Gail (David) Stratton, step-grand-children David Jr., Leah (Wes) Alderman, (their children, Oliviana, Troy and Judah,) Benjamin (Kaitlyn), Mara (Dylan) John, Beth Kovacs, step-grand-daughter Amanda Weenink, and Carol Herman, step-grand-daughters, Jessica, Madeline, and Emily. Beloved uncle to Ann Harmon, Reese and Vickie Powell, Rusty and Kaye Powell, John and Pam Powell, and Don and Linda Tappan, and Cheryl Givler.

 

There will be no services, a private interment will take place at a later date.
