Wendell Koontz

Obituary of Wendell Paul Koontz

Wendell peacefully passed away after a courageous and inspiring battle with cancer.  He never complained about his cancer and freely shared his joy for life throughout his battle.  He was 84.

He was a retired Air Force Veteran and pilot, having served 24 years.  During the “Cold War”, he was on a flight team that flew the B-58 Hustler, which was the first bomber capable of obtaining Mach II speed.  He also served with NATO while in the Air Force where he was instrumental in analyzing and developing war game scenarios.  After he retired from the Air Force he flew 747’s for Polar Air Cargo.

Wendell was a driving force in the Kairos Prison Ministry helping to establish the ministry at the Central Florida prison.  He also spent many afternoons at the Dock Outreach Center (a safe haven for children).

He said he was preparing for his death for his entire life and was a very spiritual man.  He loved his family and was a wonderful example of how to be a man.

He is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Pat and three children-Paul (Marla), Bill (DeLena) and Suzie.  Also, five grandchildren-Sarah, Emily, Ben, Kinsey, and Lucas.

In Memory of Wendell, donations can be made to Kairos Prison Ministry-CFRC, Treasurer Stuart Dawley, PO Box 33212 Indialantic, FL 32903.
