Obituary of William Patrick Rothamel

William Rothamel passed away peacefully at his home in Indian Harbour Beach on Monday evening, July 23, 2012 at the age of 93. Captain Rothamel served in WWII in Submarines in the Pacific Theater, after joining the Navy shortly after the Pearl Harbour attack. He married Elsie Pappas of New York City in Key West just before leaving for Submarine duty in 1942. Mrs. Rothamel passed away in 1969. Mr. Rothamel retired from the Navy at the rank of Captain and came to Indian Harbour Beach in 1976. Captain Rothamel was active in the local community. He was a member of the Holy Name of Jesus Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus and the Order of the Hibernians. He leaves behind three sons, William Rothamel of Brentwood, TN, John Rothamel of Melbourne, FL and Richard Rothamel of Pittsburg, PA; and two stepdaughters, Chrystal Mertz of Bristow, VA and Beth Rayome of Annandale, VA. He is also survived by six grandchildren and three great grandchildren. A wake is scheduled for 5-7 pm Friday at Beach Funeral Home on Patrick Drive in Indian Harbour Beach. A funeral Mass is scheduled for 10:30 am Saturday at Holy Name of Jesus Catholic Church on A1A in Indialantic.
